Maria Louisa's oldest daughter, Maria Jose, entered middle school this past year. She had attended a public elementary school. However, the quality of public education in Guatemala is very poor, with 50 or more students per class, unqualified teachers, poor materials, and many days or weeks of missed school each year. We are sponsoring Maria Jose to go to a private school where she can receive a good education and better opportunities for her future. She is a promising and high achieving student who is motivated to learn. Her school costs are about $40/ month for tuition, and $200 each year for uniforms and materials.
