Sponsorship: Tomasa's Children

Back to Partner Through Sponsorship

These 6 children lost their father to an accident 4 years ago and lost their mother, Tomasa, to cancer in March 2008. Geraldo (16) and Carmen (15) have been caring for the family since their mother first became ill and now find themselves completely responsible for 4 younger siblings and themselves.

These children are very dear to us as they lived on the Emmanuel's Heart mission property while Tomasa underwent medical treatment for her cancer in 2006. We have continued to work with the family since returning to their village. Thanks to donations from the women of Blue Mountain Community Church in Walla Walla we have been able to provide a bed for the boys, who were sleeping on the dirt floor and a loom for Carmen to weave the traditional Mayan skirts that are worn by the village women. This loom will provide Carmen with the best opportunity to earn money for the family. Our dear friends at Shield of Faith Ministries have recently provided electricity to the home, school scholarships for the 3 elementary age children, and pastoral care and mentoring to the family. Our commitment to Tomasa's children is to support them and love them as they walk this difficult path, and our prayer is to see each of them grow into mature young adults who put their faith in Christ, who can physically, financially, and emotionally provide for their families, and who know they are loved.
