Geydi, 14, and her mom became homeless when they chose to leave after many years of alcoholism and abuse by Geydi's father. A missionary family was helping Geydi go to school until the missionary was killed in a local robbery. We were pleased to be able to help Geydi and her mom by providing them with temporary housing at our facility, work, and education for Geydi. Even public schools in Guatemala, such as the one Geydi now attends, are too expensive for many families. Families must choose which child in their family may attend school and which are more valuable as field workers, shoe shiners, street vendors, or helpers at home.
