Nestled in the gorgeous mountains of Chimaltenaango, Guatemala, there is a tiny village named Pachemulin. Although it is very primitive (they have only recently received electricity), small and remote, Pachemulin is centrally located in farming country and has the opportunity to be a strong influence on its surrounding communities. Right in the middle of Pachemulin there is a small school building; it's really the only thing that distinguishes Pachemulin from the surrounding farmland.
The school is somewhat of an orphan, for while the government pays the small salaries of the 12 devoted teachers, the school receives no other support for building development, maintenance, curriculum or materials. The very dedicated teachers pay for the scant classroom supplies out of their own meager salaries. The little school has 301 students, 11 classrooms and 12 classes. One class meets in a tin lean-to with a dirt floor.
On June 25 through July 2, 2008, a team from Green Valley Church in Southern California arrived in Guatemala with the purpose of joining the community of Pachemulin to build two adjoining classrooms to replace the tin shack that they had been using as a classroom. In the months prior to their trip, the team raised over $4000 to buy the materials for this much needed project.
The team fell in love with the Pachemulin community as they worked alongside the locals to build the walls for the classrooms. On their last day, the team was able to share the gospel through translators, the Evangicube and gospel bracelets. We give the glory to God that the "Pachemulin Team" successfully delivered the message that God loves these people who are tucked away in the hills; He hears their prayers for help with their school and He cares about their welfare and their future.
